There’s an elephant in the room. It’s really big and few are willing to deal with it. I’m talking about the disconnect between employees and management. They each have a long history of not getting each other. This isn’t a major revelation, however, there was a time when organizations could still function, produce a product, provide a service, generate profits and not really understand each other. Those days are long gone. Too much has changed and it’s not going back to the way it was.
The elephant is that employees aren’t happy at work and they aren’t planning on staying at their job for long but they won’t tell their employer that. The employer knows they aren’t going to stay, but acts like they will and then seriously resents that they can’t keep good employees. Organizational cultures are changing so rapidly now that most leaders don’t know what they can do to keep up or make a difference so that people will want to stay.
I created Moxie Culture as a way to collect solutions, ideas, discussion and struggles into one place. At first this was going to just be a blog where I could talk about these things but somewhere along the way I realized that what I really wanted to do was talk to the people who actually were creating solutions and using them. So I started an interview podcast and I’m now having conversations with those who are making a difference, who see the big picture and can tell their story so that it can inspire others to go back to where they work to make changes there. I don’t want to highlight just one narrow view, but explore the whole spectrum of what’s possible to make work engaging.
I used to word Moxie because it is going to take some bold and fearless conversations to make a real difference. I hope to create those conversations. So please join in the discussion. Feedback is the only way to make this better so I’d love to hear from you about who you’d like to hear from and what I can do to make this better.
Thanks for playing!
